My SSCS 2008 package has arrived...

Arrgh this is so cruel - a box has arrived from Stevensville, USA, addressed to me - with SSCS : DO NOT OPEN TIL CHRISTMAS DAY...

I can't even work out who my SSCS swap partner is - so I can't even sneak a 'lurk' at their blogsite to get any clues...

THANK YOU SO MUCH to my SSCS swap partner - I promise to be good and wait until Christmas Day.

Projects worked on this weekend...

Saturday was our last quilt club day for the year, it is always lots of fun, with a shared lunch, a game or two, huge show and tell, opportunity to take out heaps of the club's library books to get you through until the January 09 meeting...

The challenge that we had for this meeting was to make a Christmas Stocking (using the fabrics and notions supplied), adding your own fabric, design of your choice etc. The object was to get 50 stockings made, so they could then be handed over to our local community newspaper to encourage local businesses to "fill" the stockings - then these stocking will be given to the childrens ward at Hutt Hospital to bring a little cheer... here is my stocking - the gingerbread man is the back, and 'joy' is the front. I was not lucky enough to win any prizes, though was great satisfaction knowing that my stocking may bring a smile to some little or even big child on Christmas morning.

It brings back memories of when I was 9 years old and spent my Christmas in Wellington Hospital with my left leg in traction, and both collar bones strapped up, had been in a car accident (in the November, was away on a day trip with family friends, accident happened on the way home). My dad was a volunteer fireman for Upper Hutt Fire Brigade, at that time, and he arranged for "Father Christmas" to come visit me and the other children in the ward along with the other firemen from his station - it is such a wonderful memory...

I have also done a little more work on the baby quilt... after visiting the "baby-to-be's" room, I realised I was a little off in my colour choice - a little too bright! I noticed a picture on the wall that the mum-to-be had painted of a dragonfly in neutral colours, so while she went and made us a cuppa - I snuck back into the baby-to-be's room to take a picture on my cellphone. I got Kait to draw up the picture for me this morning - and then I got busy with the visofix and fabric... since this photo I've started blanket stitching the dragonflies in a multi-coloured brown cotton - they are looking so cute, and have toned down the quilt really well...

The weather this weekend has been absolutely beautiful, summer is finally here... great for the soul to feel the warmth on your skin (with SP30+ coated on first of course)...

Have a fantastic week, no updates on the job front - had 4 good interviews with agencies on Friday to register my CV = so it's a case now of keeping the eyes and ears open for any opportunities...

SSCS 2008 ... finally ready for dispatch tomorrow...

... I am so sorry to my SSCS partner for the delay - though finally "it" is all packaged up and ready to post tomorrow morning and "it" will be on its way to - ?????????? who lives in ???????????, Ohio, USA.

Thank you so much Elf Donna for the fantastic organisation and pleasant-prompting emails to make sure all us Elf juniors make the sleigh-post... I missed the sleigh (25th Nov) however fingers crossed and hope there is a tail wind behind the post-plane that my gift will still reach my swap partner in time for Christmas day.

Will post pics after Christmas of what I made, and sent...

This is the inaugural Stonestead Quilt Festival to be held at Stonestead which is right nextdoor to Sawmillers Quiltery. Go to the Stonestead blog to find the registration form to enter your quilts, offer to be a volunteer on the day or just as a reminder to come visit on the day - it will be gorgeous - Stonestead has lovely gardens where the quilts will be hung - won't give anything else away as you must come visit...

A busy last few days...

Gosh it seems like it has been all go around here the last few days... DH came up the stairs on Thursday night calling out to me that I needed to take him to the hospital - 6 hours later we got home - he's got another lovely scar in the making on his right thigh. A slight accident that had him come off second best left him with a rather deep gash - won't share the photo's as is a little gruesome LOL

Saturday we had no children at home - so DH and I went to Wellington in the morning for a spot of shopping, coffee stop and then visited Roger (DH's tattoist) - DH has plans for some more work - so an appointment has been booked... Roger's logo (the dragon) was the starting point for DH's quilt that I finished earlier in the year... here's another peek (must take another picture of DH and his quilt as this one is rather blurry), which reminds me I still haven't emailed this picture to Roger and his wife... must do that once I finish updating my blog.

Sunday went with a friend and youngest DD to the Eastbourne Fair - first time I've been - wasn't really what I was expecting so a little disappointed - though they had lots and lots of people around so hopefully all the stall holders made good sales.

Have decided to crank up the effort in finding a new job - have been in denial for quite awhile as I love where I am, however the current economy and the current climate of the company has
greatly reduced my role, so have decided to bite the bullet / grab the bull by the horns... and make a very concientious effort in finding a new role before Christmas (or even so I've got something lined up to commence in the new year)... will let you know how things progress - though even making a decision like this lessens some of the worry and stress...
