Christmas crafting...

The good thing about Christmas is I seem to find my crafting mojo again albeit for a few weeks :D

Yesterday we were out past Red Rocks, on the bay diagonal to Karori Lighthouse, Chris was diving (yummo we had crayfish and paua for dinner); while Chris was diving I always scavenge the beach for heart-shaped rocks, and small washed up paua shells. I was on a mission to find similar sized shells to make a 'shell & bead string' with them.

Once we left the beach, we detoured to Made Marion, to visit gorgeous Maryanne and her hubby David, with a mission to buy wax coated thin twine and glass beads, and crimp thingees (to stop the beads moving on the twine).

This morning I washed the shells, left to dry in the wind! and then began the crafting this afternoon.

I went to hang on the wall outside of the bathroom, and realised I had no picture hooks :(  I will get some tomorrow and then post an updated photo of the completed 'shell & bead string'.  Am pretty pleased with the results.

12 x 12 challenge...

A few from my Thursday night quilting group of girlfriends (Kwilting Katz) have taken up a challenge set by Shirley and Sandra for a 12 x 12 challenge.  There are 12 themes (politics, pollution, light, picasso, impressionist art, puzzle, insects, identity, recycled, water, journeys, and technology).

This is my first block : IDENTITY : the hand is me holding my family (husband and daughters, and reflects their Maori heritage), within the hand is a stitched heart with four "x" representing each of us.  Hanson was my maiden name, and Manu is our family name.

The second block is JOURNEYS : this represents my journey in cycling, the trees for the outdoors and the slight incline for the hills I've climbed in life and continue to climb in cycling :)

I will share more as I complete the blocks - they are to be finished by May 2012 so I've got to get busy.  Block 3 is underway :)

Back sewing...

Finally back at the sewing machine. Sewing more blocks for my spider web quilt. Am thinking what to call quilt, what do you think of "web of  friendship".  As so many friends have added to my selvege stash.

What's a post without Bella :)

These lavender & stuffing filled hearts I made last night, for Kait to give to her boyfriend's mum (for her birthday) - the hearts are a version of some gorgeous hearts Deb gave to me for Valentines - just loved the idea and they make such wonderful quick gifts...

Here's darling Bella, curled up and content, fast asleep on my computer chair... isn't she getting fluffy...

Hope you too are having a restful weekend...

8th September 2007

Hello people; tonight is my first time signing in and creating a blog :) A little scary really.

I have been enjoying lots of people's blogs from the craft blogsphere - and am loving their content and photo's. Provides you with lots of inspiration for your own crafts.

I started quilting only in the last 3 years - and have quickly become addicted. I am currently working on an original designed Japanese themed quilt for my husband; and also an art quilt (based on Susan Carlson's teachings) of a Paua shell amongst rocks, this is still very much in progress...

Here are some stitcheries that I have in our local arts and crafts fair that is on this weekend at Pinehaven School... two of them sold on opening night - was very pleased - am at the fair tomorrow as a 'spotter/helper' so will be checking to see if the others have also sold :)

Look forward to chatting more with you soon.
